mercato di milano

Happy November!  Hope you had a fun Halloween..boo!

I headed to Milan this past weekend to visit a friend.  I did hours of shopping (more window shopping), and one of the highlights was the Antiquariato sul Naviglio Grande, held the last Sunday of every month along the city’s oldest canal.   Besides the hundred’s of antiques dealers, the shops (many carrying vintage and antique wares) and restaurants in the area were open (rare for a Sunday in Europe), contributing to a very lively scene.

The market featured everything from original art to antique bibles to vintage furniture to vintage fashion and jewelry (I would have been devastated if it hadn’t!):

.

this pair decided to take a break!

.

the ORIGINAL razor scooter!

animal paintings, particularly enticing for Dachshund owners

this is a vintage sewing/knitting “box”…

…it opens to reveal several trays for storing supplies.  Like a fisherman’s tackle box.

the stalls stretched for blocks along the canal

one stand with a religious memorabilia slant

a grommeted chest. if i had had a car to drive it home, i might have bought it!

a range of goods, including this vintage drinks cart

.

so, drumroll please…here’s what i came back with from the mercato:

vintage button earrings

check out these chunky danglers!  (luckily they’re clip-ons)  they’re new, not vintage, but the vendor told me that she produces them with a local artisan.  naturally, I couldn’t resist!

a vintage ring – very mod!

That’s my mini-tour through the Milan collectibles market!  I came back with lots of inspiration and a few fun pieces = a success!  Now I’m off to do some vintage jewelry research ~

À bientôt,

k.
