Audubon Park, New Orleans

Never one to sit still for too long, I’m on the road again, this time here in the US.  I’m down in New Orleans for a visit to my boyfriend and his family.  Naturally, I timed my trip to coincide with Mardi Gras (my first!), but I’m not limiting myself to drunken debauchery.

My boyfriend took me for a walk around Audubon Park in Uptown New Orleans on my first morning here, and was it a pleasure!  After coming from my parents’ home in Minneapolis, it was wonderful to breathe in the wet, fragrant earth (no, really) and be outdoors without a jacket, gloves, hat, scarf…

I took in the wildlife at the park, as well as some of the beautiful homes that surround it.  The houses here in N.O. have so much character, unlike those in almost every other city in the U.S. – and I LOVE it!!

a beautiful home on the park

egrets out for a stroll in the park

a Victorian hidden by 400+ year old oaks

a gorgeous white Colonial

a wonderful old home that’s seen better days

a red-beaked goose, not a bird I’ve ever seen in the North

a ‘Raised Cottage’ house, a favorite of my boyfriend

a couple of blocks off the park, a pink Victorian

a ‘Shotgun’ style, so-called because one could fire a shotgun bullet from front to back and hit every room in the house (i.e. they’re incredibly narrow)

So ends my initial tour of NOLA (New Orleans, LA, the acronym New Orleanians for the city).  Stay tuned for my Mardi Gras post!

Bon weekend!
