Art Nocturne Knocke

Art Nocturne’s life-sized “A” for Art logo

A couple of days ago, I got to do something that makes me truly appreciate living in Europe…I found out about an art and antiques show in the Belgian coastal town of Knokke-Heist, so with two days notice, I drove up to Belgium and checked it out.  The show is called Art Nocturne Knocke, ‘Nocturne’ because it’s only open in the evenings, from 4-9pm.

An aquatic installation

The show is meant to be a bit ‘alternative’ to most art and antiques shows – the show is aimed at young collectors – the artists (painters, sculptors…) are generally younger talents, and therefore, the prices for their works are far more accessible.  Same with the antiques.  Don’t get me wrong, there were still pieces that were 100,000 euros +, but there were also a few works for as little as 300 euros.

As I’m saving up for a vacation (coming soon!) to the South of France, I didn’t buy anything this time.  But here are a few things that I’m still dreaming of:

French painter Raoul Dufy’s (1877-1953) Élegants sur la plage from the Kunsthandel Frans Jacobs gallery in Amsterdam:

A 17th century ebony cabinet from Antwerp available from De Pauw-Müller Antiquairs:

♥  A limited-edition Lanvin pink beaded necklace  (not pictured here, sadly) from Katheley’s.  But here’s another fabulous vintage piece from her site, the Comtesse necklace from Françoise Montague:

I plan to go again next year…but with some cash to spend!

À bientôt,

k.
